PT-141 (Bremelanotide) is a synthetic cyclic heptapeptide and melanocortin receptor agonist with the amino acid sequence Ac-Nle-cyclo[Asp-His-D-Phe-Arg-Trp-Lys]-OH. It acts as an agonist of multiple melanocortin receptors with binding affinity in order of potency for MC1R, MC4R, MC3R, MC5R, and MC2R. While the exact mechanism for its effects is not fully understood, PT-141 primarily acts through MC3R and MC4R receptors in the central nervous system. PT-141 has been shown to activate neurons in the hypothalamus region and produce effects on sexual function in both animal models and human studies.
